Protein Skimmer setup

OK, I have the new tank and everything going. I am trying to setup the protein skimmer.

Below is a pic of what mine looks like. Its called a SeaClone.
I understand it hangs on the back and the air valve does not go beneath the water.
I think I am supposed to put the maxi jet pump with the foam cartridge under the water right?
The thing that has me stumped is the electric cord goes into the back of the pump, and that part of the plug would be immersed?
Everything in me is screaming right now you don't put plugs in water:shock:

the cord goes in the water...but the plug gets plugged in outside of the water.

I know it gets plugged outside the water. I meant you will have part of the electrical line submerged. Just seemed odd to have the cord, (not plug in) under water. I know what I was trying to type, I just didn't get it across the way I meant..lol It's been a long day.
