Protein skimmer

My Reef Octopus skimmer is great all except for one problem. It's a HOB skimmer, so it has 2 collection cups, and 2 pumps, etc. The left side skims amazingly, making plenty of bubbles and fills the cup about once a week with lots of crap. The right side on the other hand, skims like crap! I have had it set up for about 2 and a half months and the left side I clean weekly but the right side, I have only cleaned out about 3 or 4 times!!! What is wrong with my skimmer?!

Can you post a link to the model skimmer you have? I'm having a hard time visualizing the setup.

if its this one, there are only 2 explanations, you have them set to operate differently or you have a pump/air issue

its the DBH300. got it from BRS during our group buy.

It has two pumps? Try switching the pumps and see if the other side starts working. If so, then you can assume one of the pumps doesn't work as it should.

Okay, thanks biff. I will try that out. Oh another question that has to do with the skimmer. should I turn it off since my tank is still cycling?

No, you can leave it running. It won't do any harm.
