what is the purple stringy stuff in the center?

what is the purple with white specs solid plate looking thing in the top center? this thing basically took over one of the heads of this trumpet coral and knocked it out.

That looks like cyano to me. Cyano is a very broad group of bacteria, and what you have is just growing in filaments.

And the thing on the candy cane stump looks like a sponge to me

this is solid, though, and hard to the touch, so i didn't think a sponge?

and cyano as filaments, huh? it's been there and not moved, grown, or changed in about six months and my levels are always kept impeccable and there isn't cyano anywhere else. perhaps this particular bit is a particular strand or group of cyano that has just what it needs to survive where it is?

any other ideas?

Not really. you can pull it out (both things) if they bother you, but they dont seem to be too invasive
