Question

imdaring

love my reef
OK I have a wet/dry filter with the bio balls here are some pics, but I'm think about switching it to a refuge, my wet/dry is very small and it keeps my nitrates up because of the bio balls, and I have my protiem skimmer and my pump in it also so there is not much room to work so I'm thinking about making a refuge when we move back into out new house, what I'm not sure of is what it the difference and are the reguge better??

The idea of a refugium is to grow live pods for the fish to eat and help with nitrate reduction.Where the wet/dry is basically just a filter to catch detritius and other crap.

a fuge is a great nitrate exporter, if you go to my build thread there was a couple page discussion on what a fuge is and what type is better, i cant get the link to work but the discussion starts at the bottom of page twenty

I would make the bio ball section into refugium if possible. If not all you need is a aquarium and baffles to make a sump. Which is very easy to do.
