I am new to running in-sump protein skimmers and wanted to know what the optimum water level in the protein skimmer should be? How far up should the foam reach?

The water level in the sump should be 8-9.5 inches. The foam should reach at least to the top of the cup. If the foam is just making it to the top then your skimming "dry". The higher you raise the foam the "wetter" you skim.

So the water level in the protein skimmer is dictated by the dry or wetness factor?
Secondly my sump level is 9 inches but its to high for my skimmer per the vendor. They said the water outlet should not be submered and for that I will have to raise the protein skimmer height...sound okay?
