refugium setup

ok, i have an old filter that does not work anymore, like the ones you put bio- bags in, a pretty big one , not sure what size, but probably something for a 55 or over tank, could i use it as a hang on back refugium? how would i go about this?, or where could i find any info on how to go about this, anything will help, thanks.

I'm not sure where I saw it but I've heard of people using old HOB filters like the Aquaclears to put chaeto instead and use the lighting for the aquarium for it.Maybe even some rock rubble might work as well.

I don't see why not. Just make sure you can get light in it.

okay, what about trying to use acrylic to kind of seal off an area on the aquarium sandbed, with small holes drilled in it so pods can move, but fish cant get inside, i tried to post a drawing, but i guess i dont know how.
