return spiting up micro bubbles

docta09

Reefing newb
the return is throwing micro bubbles every 5 minutes
what i dont understand is how it stops and then just shoots like 100 bubbles
what could the problem be

Sounds like there is a bubble caught in the pump and when the propeller catches the bubble it shoots out a bunch of little bubbles.

+1 LF. Try putting a sponge in between your pump and anything making bubbles. You will have to clean it every week but you can use that to catch the bubbles until you build baffles (a bubble trap) in your sump.

I have A sponge in front of the intake of the pump right now but if a bubble is cause in the propeller wouldn't once it does through once the bubles should b over

You've got to figure out how the pumps getting the air before you can fix the problem.
Sounds to me like its picking up the air through a vortex in the sump.

Spend some time watching the pump.See if a vortex is forming just above the intake of the pump.If there is,you have 2 choices for fixing it.
#1 get a 90* PVC elbow that is threaded to fit your pump ( Lowes Home Depot Ace Hardware) and position it so the open end is pointed straight down.
#2 Add more water to your sump until the vortex can't form.
Option #1 is the best choice.

ill give that a try thanks
i was looking at the pump and noticed the head wasnt locked in right
and was spiting out water through the sides
its better now. ill wait and see if the bubbles show up again
