Reefing newb
My 40 gallon sprung a leak and as a result I had to remove all water and sand/rock from the tank. Whether I get a new one or repair this tank, I want to be able to reuse the sand and not have to buy new. I have all the sand in a large container but it is not under the tank water so I'm guessing it won't be "live" sand, at least not for long but I do want to reuse it. Would it be ok to do so? I know that mixing up the sand while it's in the water is bad because you stir up nitrates and stuff that are underneath the top layer but I'm thinking if I rinse the sand before putting it back in and maybe even waiting a few days before I reintroduce my fish to the tank that it would be ok. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
