Reverse Osmosis

Hi,

Is there any benefit or drawback to using RO water in my tank?

If you can explain either that would be great. I am going to do a 20% water exchange tomorrow.

Instead of using tap water? You should always use at least RO water, preferably RODI water. Tap water can be terrible for your tank, especially if you have inverts. Even if you use a water conditioner, you can't get out all the impurities in tap water that can lead to algae growth and invert deaths. Distilled water is also a good choice.

 

Always use water with a TDS near zero. TDS is the overall measure of water purity. RO and distilled water are at or near zero TDS.

Anyone know where I can get a TDS tester? I just hooked up my system looks great addin pictures in a min.....

 

I got mine on Ebay. It was like $15 or something. Be sure to get calibration fluid with it (another $3 or $4).
