i get my tank water from the ocean. Can i use the same sand for bottom of my tank?

You can, but it's not really wise. The sand may contain contaminants that you could introduce to your tank. If you do collect some sand, you may want to travel out some from the shore to get some of better quality.

+1 smitty....also, do you go deep down for your water? Getting water too close to the surface isn't a good idea, since most contaminants will be there.
