Simple Skimmer Question

How often and how much a clean should one do on their skimmer?

When it gets gunky/if it stops working correctly. I do mine every few months. Vinegar works wonders.

The cup and neck should be wiped down whenever you empty it. As for cleaning the rest of it, that always involved disconnecting it and taking it apart - so I did that basically never. :lol:

I use Clorox wipes to clean the cup on my eShopps 150. About every 3 days or so. Roughly every other month I pull the skimmer from the sump and take it apart to clean it up right. Mine comes apart easily and cleaning with the wipes takes no time. I usually pull the pump impeller first and soak it in vinegar first. Everything gets a rinse in HOT tap water then reassembled. Then I put it in a bucket of RODI and run it for a few minutes. Then its back in the sump.
