It looks like a whelk of some sort.

hmmm, I think it looks closest to a whelk but I can't find a picture that's exactly like it.

How much damage can a welk cause? Over this past weekend I took a trip to a LFS in another town and got 2 nice zoa frags for $10 each. Last night I noticed a very tiny snail, with a trunk that was moving super fast. By time I remembered this post it was out of site. I'm sure I'll have a hard time finding it again, but it's definitley some type of welk, judging by the pics on the hitch hiker link.
