spongy pod thing

I found this on a new pc of Indo rock from my LFS. I know what spnge looks like, but this looks like some kind of pod or egg sack?
Any idea what it is or if I shoudl remove it?

It looks like a sponge to me. There are so many different types of sponges. A lot of variety in appearances.
