Can a Purple tang and Yellow tang co-exist?

Because tangs create quite a fierce pecking order. Unless you have a big enough system for quite a few of them then I would advise against it.

Looking similar they would probably fight it out.
In a 110 its questionable. Like Waddi said, if they look alike they are more likely to fight. If you really want one you could try it but just be ready to separate them if it goes south.
For example in my tank I have a Yellow Tang and added a Blue Tang no problem but when I added a Kole Tang they didnt get get along. Id say its 50/50.

Both yellow and purple tangs are in the Zebrasoma family. They are closely related -- and the more closely related tangs are, the more likely they will fight. You should try to pick tangs from different families if you are going to have multiples.
