no it didn't happen. Just wondering what you do if yours crashes? Do you replace every single thing in there?

Keep anything that's alive. Keep liverock, wait it out for things to stabilize... Like really display patience. No shaking and no Q-tips!

well as you know my thank cashed straight into hurricane ike :) so I'll be making another build thread :) so slow and steady is the mao. Thing all I kept was my LR which will probably isn't to "live" anymore cause I didn't put it in any water

Any thoughts on what I should do with dry rock
I was thinking eighter reseed it with a little LR or trade it to a lfs for some LR egg righter way I'm a looooong way away from that

The term "Live Rock" simply means that it has beneficial bacteria on it and inside the tiny holes, nooks and crannies.

You have Dry Rock right now. So? All you gotta do is put it in the tank and drop a cube of food in there. Let the food rot. Let the tank sit for 2 months. This is the cycle you'll need to go through in order to start the tank again. No big deal.

    Now you got Live Rock.

People have this idea that live rock is complicated or special. Live rock is nothing more than ROCKS. It just happens to have sat in the tank long enough for the bacteria to begin growing on it.

JCE,No longer than your roacks been out of the water,You'd probably have enough dead stuff to kick off a full blown cycle without adding anything else.Bare in mind that it'll smell like a road killed possum on a hot summer day though.

that is exactly right on a microbal level it is that simple. i would always throw some liverock in there that will be teeming with fauna and microfauna to really get it going though. but there is absolutely no harm in using the rock you currently have again.

I know you guys like to kid around but I take things very seriously and personally. Remember I'm new at this and I'm a rookie. Rookies make mistakes and learn lessons. There won't be anymore fish added for a long time. No more shaking and no more Q tips!

AWW,Just keep the Q-tips locked up and it'll be alright.
But your right. We've all made mistakes and we'll all make more mistakes. It's how we learn.
And I wouldnt say there wont be any more rock shaking. You'll shake plenty of rocks if you ever end up with a mantis in your tank.

Ryan, I certainly hope you don't take what I said personally. I definitely didn't mean to make you take it that way. I was just jokin a bit. But I'm not trying to give you too hard of a time. The goal is that you learn something from experience, and as long as you do that's what is important. Then you can laugh about rookie mistakes later :)
