Ok so a nother question. I am setting up a 80 gal tank with sump where I would like to put the heater(s) How many watts do I need in the sump.

You can place the heater in the same compartment with the skimmer, inside the sump...and I believe that a 300watt heater should do well for you.

+1 on the location Smitty, but I would put in 2 smaller heaters. That way you have a back up plan if one fails. Maybe 2 150 watts or 2 200 watts

Ha Ha Thats Funny!
Buy the titanium heaters, very good and accurate. Don't skimp on the heater price, I did, and I ended up with two the hard way.

My tank temp fluctuated too much until I got a titanium heater.

The heater is only as good as the controller or thermostat that runs it.
