Yes it will.
Iodide is the ionized form of iodine (I-) from something like potassium iodine (K+I-)

Actually that cleared things up... it is absolutely clear we don't know... how to use iodine in a reef tank. and it doesn't sound like we have a testing method that is reliable because we have no way to catch the iodine swings.. or something like that.
It sounds like this would be great graduate grant work to chase to eco, museum, and reef tank recommendations .... someone? I'd best move I don't want to be run over by the mob of folk running to get embedded in this exciting piece of research study .
