Well our power has been in and out all day. Tomorrow I will be borrowing a generator to have on hand until I can buy my own in a couple of weeks. Just a reminder to all that have access to a generator make sure that yours is operational.

I'm glad I started my tank AFTER hurrican IKE ripped through Houston this year. I was actually building my stand the day it hit.
NOW i have a generator, but I didn't for several days. 17 days total with no house power. Soooooo many people in this area lost everything in their tanks. :(

Ryan,

You can go two ways with whole house generators :

1.) Complete standby for your entire house
2.) Standby for "SELECT CIRCUITS" in your house

Whole house is typically 30-50 Kw
Select Circuits can be anywhere from 10 - 20 Kw

Most standby systems work of Natural Gas or LP.
If you don't have city gas available, you will need to dig for a storage tank or use an external tower-style tank.

You should be in the $3K-$6K price range.

i am installing a 16,000W generator here in the next week or two for about $4500 ... it will run on natural gas and have a 10 second delay ... this power outage crap really sux!
