water testing

Just wondering how important it is to test for things like silicate, strontium, iodine, and magnesium? I know it will be real important if you are adding these things into your tank, but if not how important are they? And how important are adding those chemicals into your tank????

You don't need to test for silicates (and you won't be adding them to your tank!). You can tell if you have a silicate problem if you have constant diatom outbreaks.

Magnesium is important to test for if you have corals, and are dosing calcium.

Iodine and strontium... Well I don't know of too many people that test for those. If you are going to use an iodine or strontium additive, then you should test for them. But doing regular water changes with a good salt should take the place of having to add those supplements.
