i live in the mountains of north carolina and i use well water can this be bad 4 my reef tank??

Yes. Very much so. Well water is usually pretty high in minerals and heavy metals, all of which are bad for your tank. You can buy RODI water at any grocery store or Walmart. You can also buy an RODI unit to use in your home.

I had well water once which had tons of iron in it. Yote is right. Purchase a RODI unit if at all possible.

You can test your well water with a TDS meter (total disolved solids) I have found some areas have decent well water.
Although an RO unit will be a safer bet because you know exactly what you are putting in your tank.

if your growing lots of algae in the main tank, then i would consider the possibility that the water you are using is not the best choice considering the alternatives.
