I'm running workhorse 7 ballasts, each running 4 54w t5's... the WH7's can also run 3 or 2 or many many other combinations... just go on thier website and check it out.. they have a thing on the right side of the page that lets you pick whick bulbs and how many, and then it reccomends a ballast for you... just play with it...
oh, and yea thoes sockets will work... thats almost the same thing that i used... just remember that if you use thoes, they are open to the air, so if your lighting fixture is open to the top of the water on the tank they will corrode pretty quickly.. thats why people use the expensive o-ring sealed ends...
