Would This Work?

I want to make my own in-tank sump like the ones on a nano cube. It would be on the side of a 29 gallon tank, the side panel being about 12" wide and 18" tall. I would have an overflow on one side dropping down onto filter pads to do some mechanical filtration with mechanical media underneath it, then it would go up and pass by a heater and then down onto some filter media (not sure which would be best) then onto a filter pad and then to the pump which would go through a tube and out of the wall. It will be a sheet of plexiglass siliconed in the tank and the dividers will be the same. I drew it on paint after looking at a few of the filter builds for nano tanks. Would this work? If not, what should I change? And I would have a skimmer set up outside this sump unless it would fit in, maybe where the heater is.
