Cleaning Inside Glass

What is the best way to clean the inside of your tank glass if it is covered in algae. I recently tore up my magnetic cleaner and have let the algae grow fairly badly on the glass. I siphoned as much of it out but the rest I can't get this way. Any way to not get the algae in the water column?

Buy a Mag Float, and an Easy Blade attachment.

It will throw all of the algae into the water though. Isn't that bad for my water quality?

It wont hurt anything. Everyone on here uses pretty much the same method to clean their glass.

If you have enough water movement, the algae will get picked up by the sump. If you have algae eating fish, they'll eat some if it right out of the water column as well. My green chromis go nuts when I run the mag float across the glass

I don't havea sump. Just a protein skimmer in the display and I only have clowfish, which don't seem to interested. I'll go ahead and clean it this way though. Thanks =)
