hi, newbi question , when you talk about your tanks gallonage do you mean after displacement of water by rock etc ? . regards john

when you are looking into equipment and such the tank size is what is meant.. like if you were going after powerheads and wantted to turn your tank over 40x per hour.. so my tank is 150 so I would be looking to turn over a 150 gal tank 40x.. the displacement isnt taken into consideration in most cases..

I take into consideration the entire tanks gallon size, before anything is added.

Plan for the actual size of the tank, but realize that once you have rock and sand in the tank it will actually hold less. I just consider this a margin of safety
