gas cans for holding water

i bought two gas containers from walmart, should i rinse them out before using them to haul water? i shouldnt have to should i?

I think it's a good idea ti rinse just to be safe. But a little suggestion!...I went to Walmart & got a 7 gal. container that is made for drinking water for camping. It is blue & has a spout that can be opened & closed& adjusted for flow, as well as a cap for filling & an air release. It wasn't very much & is convenient too. I just wrote "Saltwater only" on it.(as long as you can lift it...I can't but hubby can.)

I would rinse anything out... I just don't like to take too many chances, and you never know what kind of stuff they might have been exposed to during manufacturing, shipping, and just sitting on the shelf.

When I bought my plastic containers, I just rinsed them out well with tap water.

I suggest to rinse it out with warm water to get the oils out in there.
