Aug 10, 2012 #2 C cvcdrk Reefing newb Is it a standard 55 gallon? If so, for 1/2 inch you'd be looking at about 30-35 lbs. You should really aim for at least an inch, though.

Here is a nice calculator that should help you determine closely how much sand you need: Aquarium Calculator - Unit Conversion Tables At the bottom, put in the lenght plus width and the sand depth and it should give a good answer.
