Would I get more flow into my filter if I had a bigger overflow box or is it all from the pump

Actually you could if your intake was larger. You could have a 2 square foot overflow box but that water isnt going to really go anywhere unless you have a large enough opening to let it drain. So you would need to, say, go from 3/4 bulkhead to 1" or larger. Or even 2 overflow inlets.

Also would need to upgrade your pump most likely to be able to keep up with the larger amount of water coming out of the tank. Unless you have it restricted via ball valve or check valve already.

No I just have a small pump with a small over flow going into my algae scrubber
