is the box with the teeth on an internal over flow box necessary? my overflow is sucking a lot of air and makin a lot of gurgling sounds...i was wondering if i could remove the box and just use two 90 degrees elbow?

i researched online and the general consensus is that the box provides surface skimming but if there is enough agitation on the water then is surface skimming even necessary?

Do you have a airline in the 90 degree elbow? Sounds to me that you just need to dial it in.

I have the same glass holes set up on my tank and experienced the whole gurgling, toilet flushing sound. I fixed my noise problems by straightening the flexible drain hoses going to the sump. Made sure it was flowing downward with no flat spots. It now runs almost silently, just a hint of sound coming from the box. Dont know if this will help, but its certainly something to investigate.

I was reading what other people did...i had the to play with the valves a bit and then i sucked some air out through the tube and the noise was gone....its the pump that making this deep buzzing sound..I am gonna try putting some rubber mat underneath the eheim pump and that should do it.
