    First ever saltwater aquarium

    1. Is it visible in the pic? There appears to be a bristle worm in it though its a little fuzzy to tell for sure. There are also what looks like a couple tube worm shells on the rock so it could be one of those as well. 2. Those a little starfish- astrea stars. They're just a little short on...

    Wellsophylia coral new ????

As long as it's fleshy bits aren't scraping the rocks around the sides it should be okay. I'd tack it in place with some super glue to make sure it doesn't get knocked off though. The flow looks about right also- got a nice bit of wiggle from the current.

    Gluing PVC pipe

Yup that's the stuff you want. It actually melts the pipe a bit so it's all one piece when it cures, as apposed to glue which would just stick the them together and probably end up leaking or falling apart eventually. Anyway once it cures it's perfectly safe, but until then make sure you're in a...

To sock or not to sock? That is the question.

I've never used one. PITA is pretty much the first thing I thought when I first saw one.

How Many Things are Plugged Into Your Tank

Well I have a couple tanks near each other with some plugs coming from different outlets and sorta crossing over here and there. It definitely has that electrical fire waiting to happen look. :D Anyway I think it's 14 plugs total. A more detailed count would require getting up!

Fosters and Smith for live Rock

I haven't bought rock from very many sources, but of the ones I have the DFS stuff was far and away the best of the bunch. The nano stuff was even really nice- actual small nicely encrusted rocks and not just a bunch of jagged broken bits of base rock like I've seen from other sellers.

    sump problem

Usually an overflow is pretty self-regulating. As long as the return pump is doing something the overflow should be matching the rate. Can you post a picture of what yours looks like?

    learning how to frag

I'll say, just try and stop me from creating a few new frags every time I go to do maintenance with these bricks I call hands. :D

What happened to my cleaner shrimp????

Oh weird. I wonder if something attacked him while he was still soft.

    He hosted!!!!

Oooo neat, took my clowns a year to warm up to the idea of a toadstool coral. I guess that's sorta like the clownfish equivalent of I cant believe it's not butter tho. :D

Cannot figure out what this is. Any help?

I was looking all over, saying to myself "What is he talking about? All I see are clove polyps." Then I reread the bold part. :D

There has to be an easier way...

Even just a heavy non-serrated knife with a decent edge and a cutting board will do. I usually smoosh it a bit with the side to break it up a bit a keep it in place and then whack at it with the knife. Seems to work well enough; the pieces aren't super even but close enough. I add it to some...

    Aiptasia in LFS Tanks?

That sucker almost looks like he's on display for sale. Anyway, one of the LFS is like that- usually at least one tank where the rock is covered in the things.

what should be between the stand and tank

If you're worried about it being slightly uneven you can use that stick on cork lining stuff they sell for drawers. I used it for that same purpose and it seems to have worked out quite well.

    Silicone

They usually have tubes sold by the fish supplies at most pet shops that is specifically for aquariums. It doesn't have any additives of course and I've heard that it's thicker although I don't know if that's true or not. Anyway, that'd be your safest bet I'd say.
