    Macroalgae taking over tank?

Hi, my 65 has been up and running for a few months now. Been battling a hair algae problem, and its finally starting to go away after running phosphate remover, RO/DI, and buying a CUC. However, I noticed something funny growing on one of my rocks today. Looks like a freaking houseplant you...

Tank finished cycling already? 0 Nitrates...

Hi, I just started filling up my 65 gallon tank with saltwater on 3/12 (with sand, and base rock already added). I didn't add live rock into the system until around 3/15. Here are my water tests, with the first one taken on 3/24: 3/24: Ammonia- .50, Nitrites- .50, Nitrates- 0 3/28: Ammonia-...

    Cracked DE HQI bulb

I really apologize for creating a new thread, but one of my halides have been intermittently failing to fire up. When that happens, you can see an arc of electricity flow through the tube, kind of like those crystal ball things at Spencer's. But it never lights up all the way. This morning...

sunpod 36" with only one hood fan?

light has been mounted to the ceiling, and currently hung about 10 inches off water. I can re-adjust height cable to my liking based on evaporation, temperature, etc etc. the fixture came with two timers, each supporting two devices. i followed sunpod specifications and running HQI #1 and...

    Heaters

i heard larger tanks only need 3 watts per gallon rather than 5 due to ability to insulate heat better. i have a 65 gallon DT with 20 gallon sump, with about a 30 degree temp change in the winter months

    Drainage pipe restriction

yes, the tank is drilled for drainage on the back pane with an overflow box. The pic only shows the drainage pipes, I didn't draw the return pump or return piping to keep it simple.

    Heaters

My tank is in the basement of the house, and in the winter the average room temperature can dip as low as 45 degrees, AFTER sealing out the windows and doors for drafts. So as you can see, its pretty chilly. I filled up the tank once without a heater and it sat around 52 degrees while the room...

    Drainage pipe restriction

I just ran my system/sump setup for the first time last night. However, I noticed the water level in the return area decreased a significant amount overnight. I was thinking my drainage pipe went too far down into the sump, way below the water level (left pic). Does this cause too much...

So i thought i knew about plumbing...

as for being able to move your artwork later down the road, unions ftw! btw, union is the piece that joins/disjoins pvc pipes. very useful for tank maintenance

sunpod 36" with only one hood fan?

Yea, i just called and confirm that there is only one fan in the housing, draws in air from that side, and hot air exits out the other end. Yea, 2" is low, tell me about it hehe. But apparently, this is the mounting leg that current ships out. Kind of odd to have it hovering so close to...

sunpod 36" with only one hood fan?

i also notice the instruciton manual said to use a glass or acrylic canopy. Is this absolutely necessary? I feel that a glass/acrylic top will trap in heat within tank. if so, I can go to home depot and get a pane of glass / acrylic to act as a canopy. i seen this fixture used at pet...

sunpod 36" with only one hood fan?

Hi, I just received my current sunpod today. It is 36", 250x2 HQI. There is a cooling fan on one side of the canopy to suck in air, but on the other end there isn't. Just wondering if this is normal, because the other end has a fan hole with no fan attached to it. Just want to make sure this...
