Ah yes. It is a 24 gal Nano with a overflox box on the back for a small protein skimmer. So theoretically I could drill a hole in the overflow box, connect that to the sump using the pumps you suggested, and divide the sump into compartments for the skimmer you suggested and a refugium?

Alright. So: Sharks, eels, lion fish, manatees, and of course mongrel koi (the most dangerous of all gold fish). Got it. I think we are making great progress with this setup. One question though: What do you feed manatees? Cabbage and unsuspecting roommates?
