    I love this fish!

I don't know about the whole nipping at corals things, and it'll be a long time before I even think about corals. He does eat a lot though - a veritable pig. The selection at my LFS isn't too varied - I think it would be a long time before I saw a Magnificent Foxface. I agree those are nicer...

    I love this fish!

So here's my latest addition to my tank: This guy is amazing. I had a little bit of Caulerpa (thanks Biff) growing on a rock - gone in a couple days. Little bits of hair algae - gone. He'll eat anything I throw in there. The clowns leave him alone. He evens seems to pester the bigger clown...

Did I set this up properly?

Alright - silicon sounds like a pretty permanent solution so I will hold off for now until I am completely happy with how I've got all my equipment set up. I've got the intake out from under the return flow so I'm happy. Thanks Biff, Reef.

Did I set this up properly?

The pump didn't come with suction cups. The base of the pump (currently facing the bottom of the tank) has 4 holes in it which could be used for suction cups I guess, but the holes themselves are a good 1/4 inch long, so it would take a special suction cup to fit those holes. Strangely enough...

Did I set this up properly?

It's an Aqua C Remora Pro protein skimmer. Seems kind of odd that the intake for the pump would be directly under the return flow from the protein skimmer. The Mag 3 pump's face can be unscrewed and I could change the orientation ... does it really even matter? Also, aside from looking...

Gonna let this thread die off now, thanks for all the help so far.

    The waiting game

I'm starting to have my doubts about the little guy's chances. I'm seeing fresh nips in his fins, and he doesn't come out from under his rock very often. When I feed, he'll stay under his rock and wait for food to float by and get what he can that way. It's odd though, when he does come out...

    The waiting game

I've got a couple questions. First, I will have had the two clowns for 2 weeks on Wednesday the 14th. The tank will have been setup for a month, more or less. I've yet to do a water change. I'm assuming I'm due for one. Or, is there a test I should use to gauge whether it's time for a water...

    The waiting game

Thanks french I try to limit my noob questions - you vets must get tired of reading the same questions over and over. (talking about my clownfish - there are plenty of threads talking about clownfish it seems - I should have searched a bit more.) Next fish I'd like to add is a Onespot...

    The waiting game

Hey everyone Well my waiting game is over - I couldn't quite last a whole month staring at an almost-empty tank. (Snails and hermit crabs aren't the most exciting things to watch). So allow me to introduce Salmi (the litttle guy) and Mandi (the big 'un). Too bad my digi. cam sucks, I...

    The waiting game

After a bit of research it sounds like the Aqua C Remora Pro is a great skimmer so I will likely go with that. Thanks for the suggestions. Now for a question re: lighting. It seems I'm going to go with a FOWLR tank (although with snails, crabs, shrimp, etc.) so I'm just wondering if I will...

    Hello to these forums

I've been thinking lately that Bioshock was a big factor in deciding to get an aquarium. The whole city-under-water environment must have affected me subconsciously! I was a bit disappointed with the final boss, but aside from that I thought the game was amazing. To give you an idea of how...

    ?? for the Techies

oh... my... ! Speaking of cats - yesterday I was over at my parents - their neighbours kitten was outside as it so often is. A very curious kitten, I'd often see it a few houses away near the road, on people's porches just hanging out, wherever. Well, it was sitting in the grass when a very...

    The waiting game

While I'm just hanging around, I figured I'd post this pic. If you look in the opening of the rock (where you can see right through the aquarium) you can see something diagonal. It's about 3 inches long. It's been there ever since I filled the tank with water. It's actually attached to the...

    The waiting game

Octopus brand skimmer hmm? Bear in mind I'm not running a sump/refugium, nor do I plan to anytime soon. Truth be told I'm not even sure what that is for. Will I be able to simply hang a skimmer off the back of my tank? As for Doc's suggestion on deciding what kind of tank I want to set up...

    The waiting game

I introduced myself to these forums yesterday. Thanks to all those who made me feel welcome. Apart from a protein skimmer, I've got everything I want to get (to start, at least) for my aquarium. What is everyone's opinion on a good protein skimmer? My tank is 90 gallons, saltwater. My...

    Hello to these forums

Alright Biff, another quick question... Is there no way to edit the descriptions for pictures after they are uploaded? I've got the snail picture saying they are turbo snails.. I don't want to spread misinformation. Can you as a moderator just delete the pictures I've uploaded so I can start...

    Hello to these forums

For Lionfish: These days I'm playing Bioshock, and am still finding things to do in Oblivion. I used to be hooked on WoW, but I finally got tired of that treadmill. Currently looking forward to Age of Conan, mostly. I've been playing computer games for about 25 years now, haha - I started young.

    Hello to these forums

Thanks for the reply Bifferwine. Now this thread is a big mess of duplicate photos and posts by me that will make no sense, chronologically speaking. Oh well. Couple things come to mind, so I will ask them and let the thread die... I was under the impression that snails eat algae. Is...

    Hello to these forums

Acrylic is a name I've been using for my computer game characters for a long time. It's also associated with my hotmail account. I've just been using it for so long, it's almost become an alter ego. My tank is 90 gallons, glass. It's all set up right behind me. My snails, introduced...
