    Keep the filter?

We haven't been running any kind of phosphate or carbon media. We haven't had any issues up to this point, but then again I'm only running FOWLR right now. I would imagine some kind of media would be in order once we start getting some corals? -RYknow

    Keep the filter?

hmmm. Not that the Emperor is a very nice looking unit, but I like the looks of it better then the reactor. haha. Maybe I'll just keep one of the Emporer's. It does have some pretty decent water flow. Plus it is pretty easy to add carbon when needed. Just curious though, how do you set the...

    Keep the filter?

I'm thinking about selling the filter off with our 55 gallon. I'm hoping to sell our 55 with both Emperor 400's, and pick up another good skimmer (Rogue Wave) for our new 20 gallon. I realize that the Rogue is a bit much for our 20 gallon, but eventually the 20 gallon will be a nice little...

    Keep the filter?

Should we keep the Emperor 400 we have on our 90 gallon, or is the Rogue Wave Skimmer enough? I've been able to finnally dial in the Wave so it's pulling some pretty dark skimmate out. Is the Rogue Wave going to be able to hold it's own without the Emperor? I personally don't think it's going...

Looking for a cheap, decent performing Skimmer

I can EASILY fit either of those skimmers, if I get rid of the Emperor 400. Right now I'm leaning towards getting rid of the Emperor, and just getting another Rogue Wave. Now that I have the Wave dialed in a bit better, I'm much happier with it's performance. :bounce: I'm hoping to sell off our...

Looking for a cheap, decent performing Skimmer

I'd like to avoid frequent water changes if possible. The tank is in our bedroom, and on carpet, so I just don't want to destroy the carpeting in there. Obviously can't avoid all water changes, but if I can cut them down significantly I'll be happy. -RYknow

Looking for a cheap, decent performing Skimmer

I hadn't really thought about getting rid of the emperor all together. I've been checking out this Skimmer a lot ( http://www.cncmarinesupply.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=29 ). I've been wishing I had held out on the Rogue Wave, and just picked this skimmer up for our 90...

Looking for a cheap, decent performing Skimmer

I like the looks of the Coralife Skimmer, only cause size is a bit of an issue. Our Emperor 400 takes up most of the available space on the back of the tank. Anyone here ever used one? I hear they are pretty tricky to adjust. A lot of people say you have to play around with it quite a bit to...

Looking for a cheap, decent performing Skimmer

Hey everyone. I'm looking for some recommendations on a good...cheap Protein Skimmer for our new 20 gallon tank. It's going to be a FOWLR. I'll be purchasing 30lbs LR, and 40 lbs LS this coming week. This ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4392+4400&pcatid=4400 )...

    After skimmer break in...?

I was hoping the break in would be over by now? The Skimmer has been up and running for about a month now. The most frustrating thing is no sooner I get the thing adjusted right...I'll have to clean it. So I'll have to turn everything down...clean it...and probably never get back to where it is...

    After skimmer break in...?

Sweet....Just had a HUGE flood to clean up!!!!! God damn skimmer. Hope the water didn't flow too bad on the downstairs neighbor's heads. :frustrat: The foam was at the very bottom of the neck leading to the collection cup. It's been there since last night, it was very concistant. Next thing I...

    After skimmer break in...?

I think my biggest problem is I'm always playing with the skimmer. I can't just leave it alone. :frustrat: I'm going to lower it, to just about the bottom of the neck, and not touch it for a week, and see where things go from there. -RYknow

    After skimmer break in...?

So after some more reading, I've made an adjustment (or maybe it would be classified as a modification) to the Rogue Wave. I added a small valve to control that amount of air the skimmer is getting. Here are a few pics. Here is a pic of the head (the foam...? Not sure about a technical...

    Updated pics/ new build pics.

Speaking of water quality. My nitrates are low, and well within the safe mark for a FOWLR. How can I get my tank down to 0 nitrates though? I do regular water changes, but I can't seem to get them to just zero out. I plan on keeping the Emperor 400, along with the Bermuda Rouge skimmer (I just...

    Stinkin nitrates and nitrites

Hmmm...something is fishy. A LFS, not pushing to sell Live Rock?! I don't know about anyone else, but Live Rock at my LFS is like $10 per lb. I've been to a bunch of shops around here, and they ALL push Live Rock! -RYknow

Does this include anemone's? Just curious. Seems everywhere I go, you see clowns that are hosting anemone's and such. I guess I was under the impression they were "good" for each other. I'm still learning...so bare with me with terminology, and lack of knowledge. :frustrat:  -RYknow

    Updated pics/ new build pics.

Bummer! I kinda had a feeling. :frustrat: So, with the Nova Extreme Pro, growing corals would be possible? Maybe we'll just have to get the Pro...and...hmmm...."accidently" have an extension cord run from the bedroom to the 90 gallon. Then I could just say..."OHHH...how did that get there...

    Stinkin nitrates and nitrites

Am I reading this correctly? You are coming up on your first week with your new tank? You have 10 fish and an eel? Not to mention zero live rock?! From reading this post I would assume your tank hasn't even cycled yet. If my assumption is right, your going to see all your levels spike off the...

Yeah. It's pretty frustrating. My g/f and I would really like to get a house. But we just can't afford something like that right now. So unfortunetly we're going to be stuck in this apartment for awhile I think. I've tried to talk my g/f into letting me run an extension cord from the bedroom...
