emerald crab and serpent star issues

i have a few questions about my emerald crab and serpent star... the other day when i fed my tank my emerald crab came bolting out from the rocks, which he doesnt usualyy do (i almost never see it) the concern i had was that he is turning white. it almost looks like a calcium build up on the...

    identity crisis - anemone

the picture is kind of dark and a little misleading, its shadowy. the colour of the anemone is actually the lightest colour you can see, the darker areas are just shadows

    identity crisis - anemone

no...thats way too red. its a flesh coloured body with lighter cream coloured tentacles. they are very short and banded with the cream colour. when it lays flat on the sand its not completely covered in tentacles, they stick up and move slightly in the current, they edges however are covered in...

    identity crisis - anemone

ive had this anemone for about 2 years now, in the store it was labelled sand anemone. ive looked online and cant find anything by that name, it lays flat on the substrate and its kind of pink with short cream coloured tentacles (dont know what to call them??). its about the size of a CD lying...

to host or not to host

last week i got 2 small ocellaris clowns that had not yet determined their sex. they did a little dance for a couple of days and now i believe they have figured out who wheres the pants in the relationship... i have a frogspawn coral set up in the centre of the tank, along with other various...

    Stocklist need some ideas

aside from a whole host of inverts (snails/hermits ect) i would stock it with a couple of smaller schooling fish....something that will stay in the middle of the water column. but if your looking for one larger fish i would get a kole tang or dwarf angel...coral beauty maybe. careful with the...

    Xenia help

i agree with the water changes. i have found in my tank at least that you can kill it if you tried. it grew very quick (even in poor water conditions). sometimes it takes a few days to grow back and extend fully if its been roughed up or moved around. how large is the frag? they way not open as...

    Target feeding and trapping

i just used the coke bottle method and it worked great. i had a red-spotted hawkfish that was causing problems with my inverts and lawnmower blenny. the bottle was in there for 10 minutes or so before he got trapped in it. just put some rocks or sand in it to weigh it down.

    boy or girl????

yeah thats exactly what these guys are doing, it looks like they are twitching. the smaller one seems to be more dominant so far, the larger one has been submissive, does the colouration have anything to do with it? because the larger one is missing a white stripe on one side of his body and it...

    boy or girl????

thats pretty cool, is it more likely that once they figure all that out that they will find an anemone to host in?

    boy or girl????

as i mentioned before i just bought 2 new small ocellaris clowns. i asked they guy at my LFS for a male and female, but he said that at their size they are neither yet....once they get bigger they will pair off into a male and female couple. is this accurate? they seem to be doing a funny dance...

    new clowns

i never thought of that before. thats a very valid point, i would imagine that tank raised fish would have lost some of the instinctual drive that wild fish would still have. hopefully they'll take it anyways

    new clowns

haha, i'll try that...the whole idea of clowns NOT wanting to live in a colourful house that provides maximum safety is beyond me. i know if i was a clown i would be taking all the anemones offered to me! i had a tomato clown for about 5 years that took to my anemone almost instantaneously. as...

    6 hours...

well when i bought the snails they were listed as "baby" snails, but they do look like the picture of the smallest snail.....they look nothing like the big snail in the picture. However, the snails i had a few years ago were quite large but looked like the small snail too. i guess time will tell...

    6 hours...

i floated the bag for about a half hour and added a cup of water to the bag every 15 minuutes or so....i did this 3-4 times, i forget to be honest....the snails seem to be doing fine now....some still find there way to the top of the tank but they arent pulling themsleves right out of the water...
