    sump

There are many people with smaller DIY Sumps that you could scale up to the 55gallon size. That size will also give you extra water space (which is actually a very positive thing). Before you do any sort of actual building you should do sketch/mock-ups like lilreefgirl did here...

    hello

Welcome fshgnut! A lot of people here use a protein skimmer as it really helps to keep your tank clean. As for ecoaquatics, I have never heard of that. :dunno:

    What would you do?

Ok, then yeah it could be the test kit... but then again... what do I know... :dunno: Siphoning you would have to ask someone that has true experience with these tanks. I know WAYyyyy too little to give you any sort of answer on that. It may agitate the nitrate/nitrite levels to even...

    What would you do?

That ammonia reading COULD be caused by a dead/decaying animal in your tank. Have you noticed anything (fish/coral/starfish) missing recently? I might do a small water change in order to get some of the ammonia out, but be careful not to agitate the sand too much when refilling (that could...

    What would you do?

What other coral/fish/etc do you have in your tank? Have you noticed anything missing for an extended period of time? If you have, I would worry about finding where it went. Have you done an ammonia reading recently? I also noticed that you have your temperature up around 80F. That is...

I don't think the sand sifting star is going to be a problem. As long as you keep an eye on it and make sure that it doesn't die suddenly while buried in the sand. If it dies while buried in the sand and the CUC doesn't/can't clean it up, it'll decay/release ammonia, THEN you might have a...

    75 gal price

Depends on what you include and how much you want to get from your friend... someone just put up a 55Gal for $20 on CL w/ Stand! I was like DSHKFL:DSHGKL:DSJFDS:L WTF!!!!!! :frustrat::frustrat::frustrat::frustrat::frustrat::frustrat::frustrat: WHY ME?! But I have seen other 75s go for higher...

    10Gallon Tank

Marineland is the LED Supplier's name I believe. You can actually find the supposedly reef-safe ones online for about $80 in the 18-24" version. :D That's great news for me!

You might need a slightly larger CUC too. If the hermits keep killing the snails, I might put them into QT (or your sump [if you have one]), and possibly try a different type of hermit. Things dying in my tank isn't something I like very much. :grumble:

    Salinity

If you have fish/coral/LR in the tank, you shouldn't change salinity that quickly, as you could send the fish/coral/LR into shock. Personally, I would only pull it down from 1.027 to 1.026 and then wait the 24 hours before pulling it down again, but that is just me. Sending the fish/coral/LR...

    Coolhandgoose's 55gal build

I never knew that! Maybe I should try it in my FW tank, since my one poor Platy isn't looking too good... Thanks for the great information! I still learn about freshwater on a saltwater aquarium forum!

    Coolhandgoose's 55gal build

What do you mean copper? Why would anyone use copper in a fw tank, and why would you not use it in a sw tank? :12: Is the Oxidized Copper bad for SW fish? lol >.< You totally lost me.

    10Gallon Tank

Ok, so I need a 4 bulb T5? Darn... and I thought I could get off cheap... :grumble: Ummm... does anyone know of the new LED ones? My LFS offers them for a lower price than the T5s (I think). It's like $119.99USD for an 18-24" LED Light. And that was what I was worried about... The durability...

    10Gallon Tank

Just an update, I noticed on the light fixtures box that I just got (it said Coral Life) on it, that it's in fact a T5 fixture! HOWEVER, it is meant for freshwater fish & plants. Oceanic Systems | Products | Freshwater Aqualight T5 Series - Double Linear Strip I have the 24" Version. If...

    155 gallon nightmare?

Ok... I feel a little stupid... was from another site. C.R. Laurence CRL 33S Tan Silicone Sealant | 33ST I will search for something on CRL's site though... And glad to help (even if I don't help). :grumble: I actually just read through what it says on their web-site. Not recommended for...

    155 gallon nightmare?

As long as CRL does testing and verifies it is able to be used aquarium safe, then I wouldn't worry. You really can't go after them at this point as they are discussing it openly with you. For your first question (#1), you cannot do anything until they say they absolutely won't label the...

    155 gallon nightmare?

He/She was supposed to. When he/she didn't, he/she broke the terms of the contract (to seal the aquarium with aquarium-safe silicone). That means that person is responsible to cover all damages.
