    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

So everything is looking good back in the tank. The clown is healthy and so are all the snails, crabs, and shrimp. I was thinking if I should add another fish to the tank. I have been looking at gobys (not really sure if I like them), or damsels (I know they can be aggressive so I am kinda...

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

So had a little problem over the weekend. One of the clowns died, and not sure why. All of levels are fine except for nitrates, a little high. They are between 20 and 40 ppm. Did a water change and going to continue to change the water in the next coming days.

That's why I said 55+. 55 would be the smallest.

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

Butterfly family isn't reef safe? And I gotta get a job first. I applied to a few places today so we will see how it goes. If everything goes the way I want it to then I will be able to upgrade to a 55+ in about a year.

It doesnt come off as harsh! And I totally know about the blue tang. I did some more research on the moorish idol. Not a good call on my part. But something that looks like it is cool. Doesn't have to be the moorish idol.

I was looking at the pennant coralfish. But I am getting WAAAY ahead of myself. Gotta get a job and see how this first tank goes. So far, I am loving it. Its a great hobby.

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

^lol yeah. big part of the childhood. And when I went snorkeling in Hawaii over the summer I saw the Moorish Idol. Clownfish and Blue tang were from Nemo. I kinda forgot about the Moorish Idol until I went snorkeling and my friend pointed it out. I was like o.O

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

I really like the clowns. One of the main reasons I got into the hobby. The real reason though is the Blue Tang and species that look like the Moorish Idol. I knew that I did not have the funds to get a huge tank or these fish, but I wanted to get into the hobby. I figured might as well start...

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

So I was bad and decided to get clown fish today. They look really good though in the tank and are moving around quite a bit. It was weird that they both were in the corner at the same time.

    Nitrates/Nitrites

So I'm basically all set up and ready for fish/corals, but I am having a rough time getting my nitrates and nitrites down. All of the live rock seems to be doing fine, along with my cleaners. The pH is at 8.2, salinity is at 1.022, ammonia is basically at 0 ppm (slight trace, not high at all)...

I will for sure consider the Koralia, but the budget is a little tight right now. I only have so much to work with. If I go for the Koralia, I will probably end up getting the Nano Model (which does 100-260 GPH). I see the downside with the Marineland, but it does 500 GPH in circulation mode...

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

So I opted against the protein skimmer. I bought a huge one and it really doesn't fit the size of the tank. It was also pumping out way to fast for the size, and the tank was literally covered in bubbles in a matter of 30 seconds. It was ridiculous. I hope to upgrade the tank after about a year...

    Dubby's 10 Gallon Reef

http://www.youtube.com/embed/IkXix97ulIk Here's the start of my 10 Gallon Reef. In this vid, I just show off a bit of what I have so far. I just changed the powerhead to a circulation thing. I also got rid of the Marineland Biowheel, since this week I am getting a skimmer in. I also got new...

Start of a 10 Gallon Tank

Just an update on the tank. Got some more live rock in today, live some critters, including a peppermint shrimp. Also purchased a protein skimmer online today, so that should be here next week. Next on the list is new lighting which will most likely happent tomorrow. I know I have to feed...

Also, which order should I add. Corals first or fish first?

    Stocking 10 Gallon Tank

I have read a few things. Apparently LEDs are best? But T5s work just as well. For the cost I'm assuming I'll go with the T5s, but I really like the LEDs. Also, the biowheel does have carbon.

    Stocking 10 Gallon Tank

Definately going to have to upgrade the LEDs. Don't think they are strong enough even for fish. Just started looking at different lighting options. Like I said before I am on a budget, but looking to do it right. I have about $75 to spend on lighting, with the max being $100. Any suggestions there?

The filter is a penguin 100 biowheel filter. And the lighting is a Marineland LED lighting system.

    Stocking 10 Gallon Tank

So I have my live sand and part of my live rock in the tank. (Another shipment of live rock will arrive on Tuesday with my clean up crew. The clean up crew will be 6 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs, 3 Astrea Snails, 1 Tiger Tail Cucumber, 1 Serpent or Brittle Star, and 1 Peppermint Shrimp). I was...
