2 dead emeralds

ok so both of my emeralds are dead, one is inside a rock. how the heck do i get him out. what would cause this. all levels are good but nitrates are high (20).

any advice

I don't think nitrates at 20 would have killed your emerald, mine were at 40 for a while and my emeralds were ok. Are you certain it's not a molt?

nope not a molt. the one emerald was not to much with it yesterday, did not want to move much and this morning he was in the same spot. but for both to die like this its strange

Check for stray voltage, it usually affects inverts first.

I think its because your ammonia is at .25, which is deadly to everything. I would start doing water changes ASAP

im rechecking the water. i just did a water change yesterday

i cleaned out the filter today took. took all the media out and rinsed it etc. im just trying to think of why my levels are off. could i have started a mini cycle by moving rocks around and so on.

If you kicked up the sand bed its possible.
