You dont need to run your lights 24/7.That would only cause major algae problems.And like Biff said,a lot of corals actively feed at night.
The wild reef doesnt get light all the time.There are cloudy days,days where its storming and such and if you'll look at the moon cycle,you'll see that they dont get very much moon light at all.That only happens on the full moon nights.
That being said,I run my actinics 12 hours and my 10Ks more like 6.Of course I do run the moons every night.
