5 gallon tank for a sump/ refugium?

Reefing newb
I have a 30 gallon hex tank that I am slowly in the process of setting up. I want to do a refugium but with the stand I have I am only able to fit a 5 gallon (8x10x14ish) aquarium inside of it. What are your guys' and girls' expert opinion on this working. Also, what is recommended for a powerhead as far as gph for a 30-35 gallon setup? How many gallons should be cycled in an hour. I want to do corals as well as fish. I am probably leaving out information needed for an accurate answer but thats why Im here asking you guys.:D Thanks in advance. Ill start posting pics soon of my build so far.

You could try to fit either a rubbermaid tote or 5 gal bucket in the stand and use that as a sump/refugium. As far as flow, you want to start out with at least 10x the tanks volume...so for a 30 gal you'll need at least 300gph rate. And depending on the type of corals, will determine how much more flow you will need.
