60 gal newb

The reptile lids are definitely metal.

As for the pleco, I hope you plan on upgrading soon... they get big FAST.

Also, you have a mini brittle star there. Definitely a good guy.

Just a quick update. I put 2.5lbs of live rock in the tank a couple days ago and a chopped up shrimp in a sock. Right now my ammonia is at .5 and nitrites are more than 10ppm. It seems a bit fast to me to be that far along in the cycle. Thoughts?

Well, I didn't even get the sump in and this project has already been upgraded. I found myself a 75g for $70 so I grabbed it and am now converting the 60 to FW. I'll have pics tomorrow after work. If no one minds I'll post a couple pics later in the week of the FW once it's all set up and start a new thread for the 75g.

Sounds great! My little Pico that I setup took 2 days to hit .5 ammonia, havent checked nitrates because thats useless at the moment while you have ammonia.

Well, the 60g is up and running FW. I combined 2 smaller fully cycled tanks into this one so it was able to take fish right away. Right now I have a clown pleco, a whiptail pleco, 2 cory cats, a pictus cat and 2 dwarf gouramis.
