Adding old seashells that you have collected to your tank

What is the best way to do this? I have read that bleaching and then a 2 cycle dechlorination over a week or so is the best bet. given that we have had them for several years, is there another step we need to take? also what repercussions are expected when doing this? Keep in mind that this is a non established tank, we are just getting into the hobby and are trying to get the bacteria to take hold and such. Thanks for the help!

Bleaching and dechorinating will work just fine.

Add only a few you never know about them spiking your PH. :twocents:

I've added shells in the past and had bleached them before hand.

If I boil them in r/o do you think that will be sufficient? then i could possibly add them sooner

Just fill a pot with sink water, add shells and bring to a slow rolling boil.
