Aiptasia

So I went to one of the LFS's today - the one I was pretty sure i got my Aiptasia outbreak from...

In there frag tank it was over run with the stuff I even saw one rock they were selling that only had Aiptasia on it... I was shocked! Gotta love businesses that specialise in a product they know nothing about!

Sad thing is there are only two LFS close by the others are all at least 2 hours drive away. This one you end up with aiptasia the other Digitites... I guess out of the two evils aiptasia is probably more manageable.

But yea anyone else ever seen a LFS selling a pest lol

I've seen an aiptasia for sale as a curly cue nem. I'm sure the store didnt purchase it as the nem but the employee didnt know the difference. They just saw the the tag on the glass and a nem in the tank. When I corrected the employee in front of the customer, I got the evil eye and the customer walked away.

Appys get a bad rap because of the ability to spread fast and stinging capabilities but something you rarely hear is how good they are at nutrient export. A lot of soft corals are. I've seen a couple tanks where the sump was loaded with appys and their owners say they dont mind because its easier to grow aiptasia than a macro algae. And they get better water quality. Just gotta keep the aiptasia x or joes juice handy to keep the DT free of them.

In a large tank like mine, I'd never want to take the chance of a DT outbreak. Marco's aren't any harder to grow that coral
