Brown Algae

After 2 months suddenly brown algae is growing in my tank. On the glass and sand. What is the cause?

Are you using tap water or RODI water? If the tank is new, this is just part of a normal cycle that all tanks go through. It sucks, but the first six months or so of a tank's life is full of all types of algae.

Ok, thanks. I am using RO water. Is this algae dangerous to the livestock?

No, It will go away. I started to make my own fish and coral food and over feed:shock: and had a diatom out break. it went away in a few days. Its just ugly.

What did the outbreak look like?

I'm pretty sure I have been overfeeding as well

Dark brownish fuzz on the rocks, sand, back wall, everywhere. Im using a algae scrubber and am still new at this too. Anyway I thought the scrubber would take care of it, but too much food is to much food. It was gone in a few days and there is no sign of it now.
