Can you have to much light?

You're fine with lighting. From what I understand you can never have too much light. We can't replicate what the sun can produce in nature.

Watts per gallon is an outdated way to guage lighting needs. CFL and VHO lights are low PAR lighting solutions. That's enough light for any soft coral and probably most LPS, but not enough for high light demanding SPS corals or certain clams.

I agree with cc. I've got 6 watts/gallon on my 125, BUT that's mostly metal halides, which penetrate water better than fluorescent bulbs do. So in my case, I have to be very careful where I put LPS because the lights can kill them. There's a lot more to it than watts/gallon-- it also matters how deep the water is, and what type of light is being produced.

You'll be fine with those lights if you don't want to keep SPS, most clams, and most anemonies.

Yeah, compact fluorescents and VHOs are on the weak end of aquarium lighting. Like others, I would argue that's not enough light for certain animals.
