cleaning a used tank

Hello everyone,
Today i bought a used 29 Gallon tank that was a freshwater tank, and well its really stinky. I wanted to give it a good scrub and was wondering what i could use to clean it.

Equal parts white vinegar and water and lots of elbow grease. :)

Should I clean a new tank this way? Or do new tanks not need cleaning?

New tanks don't need to be cleaned. Seems like a waste of energy to me!
