Cleaning carpets after floods?

Broke Reefer!
So I had another minor flood - skimmer went crazy and ended up dumping 3-5 gallons of water. I had a 2.5g bucket attached to the overflow outlet on the skimmer but the bucket overflowed and soaked my office carpet. Got up what I could with a wet dry vac, but it soaked pretty far in before I discovered it. Needless to say, this one is pretty stinky since it was skimmer water. Any ideas on what I can use to clean the carpet and kill the smell that won't release VOCs into the air or cause problems for my tank? Thanks!!

One part vinegar to one part hot water in a carpet cleaning machine. Or vinegar/water in spray bottle, let soak, and then wet/dry vacuum it up. If it still smells after it is dry, sprinkle baking soda onto the carpet and brush/rub in with your hand. Let it sit over night and than vacuum up.
