Cobalt MJ 1200 Pump help

Ok I bought a Cobalt MJ 1200 pump to run my BRS dual reactor. But I cannot seem to get the pump to have enough power at all to pump water.

When I detach everything from it, it feels like it is barely sucking when I plug it in. Any ideas?

It could be a bad unit.
Can you disassemble the impeller assembly and look at the magnet and housing to see if anything is chafing?
Maybe bits of plastic from the factory is preventing the impeller from rotating at full speed.

I goofed up..I was thinking the unit could sit outside your tank. For some reason I thought "do not run dry" meant don't turn on without water running through the system.

Pretty sure it's burned up lol.
