I had this coral come into my possesion when a friend passed away. I was wondering if anyone could offer me any insight into what this coral might be, and how I might care for it in coming months.

Mine is on the sanded with a good amount of flow. The things are very aggressive and their sweeper tentacles are quite long.

Yep, I have two of them, and it's easy to care for them, but hard to place them due to their aggressive nature and extra long sweeper tentacles.
