Crocea clam dropped byssal threads?

I've had this crocea for a couple months now, and until now its been doing great, great mantle extension and some growth, but now he has jumped from where he was, and it looks like the threads that he used to attach himself with are lying on the sand next to him. I'm not aware of anything that would have pulled on him or whatever. If you want them I can get pics.

thats what they do, they can sever the attachment at will, it is draining on the clam energy wise, why it did it is the question

Really? the only other time he's fallen (when I first got him), he didn't sever the threads, he just let go. He's been in this spot for a couple months now, the only thing I've changed is the addition of an acro colony, but it's nowhere near him...well hopefully he gets happy again soon...

I had a crocea that has done the same thing. I had it about mid-way up the tank on some LR and it was anchored down for months. One day I came home from work and its mantle down on the sand for no reason. It was perfectly fine and I just flipped it back over and left it on the sand.
