diy refugium from canister

If this is stupid just let me know. If I place my drain tube for me canister in a overflow box and posibly the return pipe too to prevent over flow. Could I drill two holes in the side of a canister filter placed above a ten gallon tank and used a maxi jet power head for a return into the canister filled with just live rock?

or should I just tap into the water lines to prevent ruining a canister filter. Can't spend anymore money on my tank or wife will kill me. I made a diy refugium out of a old overflow filter but would love to have a refugiun I could do something alittle cooler with than just putting cheato in it.

I dont see any reason it wouldnt work.

I'm working on plans to use 3 empty salt buckets for a fuge/RDSB.Dont know if it'll work or not,but gonna try it.

You should show me some pictures of that. maybe a parts list also. When doing just a refugium using a fish tank and overflow box how many gallons per hour do you need with a four foot head.
